Yarmouth councillor Mrs Joy Johnson, a member of the transport committee, had heard so many complaints from bus crews about the Corporation's buses that she decided to investigate. She applied for permission to drive one of the buses which, it was alleged, suffered from a gearbox defect.
Now Mrs Johnson faces a £26 bill for damage to the 46-seat double-decker and the "No Entry" sign she knocked down on her short journey along the sea front.
Says Mrs Johnson, ruefully: "I suppose we all have to pay for experience".
