Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• In Hull last week the chairman of the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners. Maj-Gen Sir John Potter, granted as applied for an application by Hull Corporation Transport to revise and increase fares on all its stage carriage services.

It was stated that the increases, which are expected to yield an additional £230.000 in a full year, had been made necessary by rising costs and overheads. Wage awards alone had amounted to £221,200.

All adult fares, other than the 2p fare for old age pensioners: the 2p minimum fare and the first stage of the 3p fare, are to be increased by lp. There will be little effect to children's fares although some will be rounded off to bring them into line with the new adult fares.

Granting the application, Sir John said that under the circumstances he did not feel the increases were unrealistic.
