Mr. J. Gourlay and Mrs. 1. D. Morrison as Members of the Transport Users' Consultative Committee for the South Western area. Mr. Courlay is a director and former managing director of Stothert and Pitt Ltd.. of Bath.

• Mr. J. H. F. Read, principal heating and ventilation assistant, London Transport, has been appointed an officer of the Board with the title of heating and ventilating engineer. Cravens Industries Ltd. announce the following changes to the boards of its subsidiary companies: Lord Aberronway, Sir Eric Mensforth, Mr. R. J. Barclay and Mr. H. Booker have resigned from the board of Cravens Ltd. Mr. J. E. Owston has been appointed chairman and Mr. A. Chamberlain, Mr. J. H. Humphries and Mr. N. Mellors directors of the company. Sir Eric Mensforth, Mr. J. R. Smyth and Mr. J. D. Markland have resigned from the board of Cravens HomaIloy Ltd. Mr. Owston has been appointed chairman and Mr. 3. Pilkington a director. Mr. G. Aleock, Mr. G. R. Burrans and Mr. A. Hanson have been appointed directors of East Lancashire Coachbuilders Ltd.

Mr. S. Gordon Sloan has been appointed managing director of Simms Motoi Units Ltd. He joined Simms three years ago as executive assistant and has had 37 years' experience of the supply of major components to the British motor industry. Mr. H. R. Daddow has relinquished his office as general manager and director of Simms and resigned his

Mr. R. Gibson Jarvie has accepted an appointment covering special duties in the new business department of Astiey Industrial Trust Ltd.

Mr. Stanley Goss, an executive of Pollard Bearings Ltd., left England last week on a three months' tour of Europe, the Middle East. Far East, Australia, New Zealand and Africa, during which he will have on-the-spot talks with company agents, distributors and associates as part of an export market survey he is making on behalf of the company.

Mr. W. .1. Ralph, director and general manager of Shamrock and Rambler Motor Coaches Ltd., and Charlies' Cars Ltd.—subsidiaries of Keith and Boyle (Ldn.) Ltd.—has been appointed assistant general manager and a director of Bulwark Transport Ltd. as from November I. He will succeed Mr. C. Exell as general manager when the latter retires next April after more than 40 years service. After his retirement Mr. Ezell will be continuing as a director of Bulwark Transport and other subsidiaries of Bulwark United Transport Ltd., and Mr. Ralph will continue his directorships of Shamrock and Rambler and Charlies' Cars.

Mr. V. J. Wilmore has been appointed garage equipment sales engineer of Tecalemit (Engineering) Ltd. for the area covering the counties of Warwickshire and Staffordshire.

Mr. Peter Brusbett has been appointed trailer sales office manager of Highway Trailers (Great Britain) Ltd.

Mr. R. Watkins has been appointed London area sales manager, construction equipment division, of Stothert and Pitt Ltd., following the retirement of Mr. G. W. Mathews. Mr. Watkins was London sales manager of Frederick Parker Ltd. for some years and subsequently southern area sales manager for New Conveyor Co. Ltd. Mr. Mathews retires after almost 30 years' service in the London office of Stothert and Pitt Ltd.

Mr. Reginald R. Reynolds, until recently chief superintendent in charge of the Metropolitan Central Driving School at Hendon, has been appointed to the newly created post of AA road safety officer.

Mr. Ronald Gill has been appointed sales manager of Lawson Pigott Motors Ltd., London, Vauxhall-Bedford main dealers.

A British trade mission to Ethiopia this month (October 10-24) will have among its members Mr. Erie D. Green, a director and general manager of Atkinson Vehicles Ltd. Mr. Green will be the British heavy commercial vehicle industry's sole representative on the mission, which will comprise 10 businessmen from a variety of industries. Led by Sir Edwin Chapman-Andrews, the mission is sponsored by the Committee for Middle East Trade.

Mr. F. Hooper, transport and dispatch manager of Gittings and Hills Ltd., paint manufacturers, of Birmingham, has retired after 46 years' service with the company.

Obituary

WE regret to record the deaths of Mr. T. Hutchings and Mr. D. R. Stokes.

Mr. Hutchings. of Bournemouth, was the founder of a South Petherton (Somerset) bus company running a daily service to Yeovil with one 15-seat bus. He later went into partnership and the company, Hutchings and Cornelius, then ran regular services between Yeovil, South Petherton and Taunton. When he retired 20 years ago, the firm was taken over by Vincents of Yeovil Ltd. Mr. Hutchings was 74.

Mr. Stokes, 64, of Stoughton, Leicester, was chairman of T. Simpson and Co. (Leicester) Ltd., haulage coutractors, and associated companies. He founded his business in 1923.
