For U.K. Market?

rs of the visit given by Mr. Beresnd Mr. David McVeigh to a staff cr of Tire Commercial Motor es that Scania Vabis are coating the production of right-handgoods models for the British t backed by a nation-wide spares

In the event a substantial numf TA members will give very consideration to the purchase of Vabis vehicles for use in this y. According to Mr. Beresford be assumed that their first cost e competitive with the costs of r vehicles produced by British t.

lels driven unladen by TA memduring the visit comprised the

15to 16-ton gross load. %I.-control vehicle powered by a naturally aspirated diesel engine ping 195 b.h.p., and the .LBS 76 ed with a turbocharged version of agine which has an output of t.p.

Mr. Beresford and Mr. McVeigh !nt favourably on the quiet run7

f the engines on the test bed and c vehicles, and Mr. McVeigh sizes that the 10-speed dualgearbox combined with ample should be particularly advan s for long-distance trunking work.

In Mr. McVeigh's opinion k he -easy access to the front of the engine provided by a hinged radiator might be preferable to the use of a tilt cab which could, he believes, prove troublesome in the form of rattles and non-operation of the tilt mechanism after a vehicle has been in service for a period.

Other features commended b Mr. McVeigh include the manually operated radiator blind which is of particular value as a means of improving the output of the cab heater, and the efficient sealing of foot pedals, gear lever and so on to prevent draughts. But he does not consider that visibility matches the normal standards of British vehicles.

Commenting on the extensive use in Sweden of a drawbar trailer outfit for which a mate is not required, Mr. Beresford claims that the necessity for a mate in this country is a restriction on economic operation that has been Outmoded by the availability of efficient power-braking systems.

No information could be provided by the Scania Vabis company regarding fuel consumptions that would enable an accurate assessment to be made of consumptions in service conditions prevailing in this country. It is notable, however, that when a Scania Vabis tandem-axle articulated demonstration outfit was operated for some months by Entress Transport Ltd. of Swansea on general traffic, its fuel consumption averaged m.p.g.
