Receiver expects Voith's getting heavier

• Troubled bodybuilder Wreckers International could be bought this week, according to receiver Robson Rhodes, which says it has been "inundated with offers".

Daniel Smith of Robson Rhodes says the offers are being sifted: "We're very close indeed to completing a deal."

Hertford-based Wreckers, which employs 24, ran into trouble earlier this month as a result of high interest rates. The company is continuing to work on several urgent orders and will be sold as a going concern, says Smith. The fate of its premises is still uncertain. E Barnsley-based Highway Recovery has just taken delivery of its third Scania wrecker fitted with Wreckers International equipment. The Concept 3000 gear includes an lnterstater under-reach boom and a three-stage boom crane.

• Voith is roadtesting a retarder for FIG Vs over 20 tonnes which, unlike its existing models, can only be fitted as original equipment by transmission manufacturers.

The 115 debuted at the NEC show and will go into production from mid-1991. Voith's present range — the 120, 130 and 133 — can all be retrofitted to trucks or coaches, but they are not as powerful as the 115, especially at lower speeds.

It weighs 100kg and has a braking torque of 3,000Nin, says Voith, and becomes an integral part of the gearbox.
