OUR MOTORWAYS are bei maintained at the expense the rest of our trunk ro system, claims the British Re Federation.
It points to a trend of an ev increasing proportion of trunk road maintenance budi being spent on motorways. F years ago a third of the cash al cated for trunk road repairs In spent on motorway upkeep. I this proportion has now risen two-thirds, and just £33m out the £91m English trunk rc budget will be spent on ni motorway trunk roads.
Said the director of the B Robert Phillipson: "MotorwE rightly have a priority on ma tenance funds as many of thi are near the end of their desi life."
In the BRF's view the only lution is to increase the tc road maintenance budget that both classes of road can adequately maintained.
