A The 30cwt limit is the only one applicable

at the moment. However, when operators' licensing is introduced in late 1969 vehicles not exceeding 3+ tons gross plated weight will also be specifically exempted from licensing provisions. The 30cwt limit will continue to apply in the case of unplated vehicles, and also will enable vehicles not exceeding 30cwt unladen but plated for weights over 31 tons gross to operate outside the restrictions.

Vehicles now operating at a plated weight

not exceeding 3+ tons gross but which exceed 30cwt unladen are still subject to carriers' licensing provisions.

It should be noted that exemption from plating and testing is only enjoyed by vehicles under 30cwt unladen. No mention is made of the 3+ ton gross limit in the Guide for Vehicle Operators (May 1968 edition).
