AFARM worker admitted at Bridlington, last week, that he had carried livestock with a trailer for three years without a licence and without sending haulage returns to the Income Tax authorities. Mr. Frank Prescott. Beverley, was applying to put his +-ton trailer on B
licence, with conditions, . " livestock within 90 miles of Beverley."
He told Maj. F. S. Eastwood, Yorkshire Licensing Authority, that he wanted the licence because of a recent police prosecution. He had brought no records, and merely wanted to do legally what he had been doing illegally.
A pig-owner from Beverley supported the application, saying he wanted pigs carried locally. Maj.Eastwood said he was not prepared to allow Mr. Prescott to take advantage of illegal activities. He granted a short-term licence, for six months, with conditions "pigs within five miles of Beverley Post Office."
1229,000 ROAD SCHEME WORK has started on a £229,000 VT scheme for the improvement of the A4I2 Uxbridge road between Broadmark Road and Dolphin Road, Slough, a distance of 720 yd. The project includes a new railway bridge, and reconstruction of a canal bridge, at present bound by speed and weight restrictions.
The road, which now narrows at one point to 18 ft., will have two 22-ft. carriageways. with a 4-ft. central reservaflan.
LONDON BOTTLENECK GOING WORK has now begun on removing the IT bottleneck in Brompton Road, London, between Hans Crescent and Knightsbridge Green, which is negotiated by 3,000 vehicles an hour during the daytime. The £100,000 project provides for the road to have a general width of 65 ft. At present it narrows to only 30 ft.
