COMPETITIVE MEANS FOR TRANSPORT REQUIRED, The Traders Defence Association, 37, St. Nicholas Street, Bristol I, belieyes that there is a growing danger that the operation of the licensing laws relating to commercial vehicles may seriously prejudice the interests of traders throughout the country, whilst the railways, in addition to diverting traffic from the road to the rail• by means of agreed charges, oppose all hauliers' applications for licences.

The objects of the Association are to help traders to obtain fair play and to secure healthy competition between road and rail, so that the best interests of the traders and the general public may be served. It is also most important to retain the right of the trader to decide whether he will operate his own motor vehicles.

Appeal Against £150 Fine.

J. Jesner and Sons, Ltd., a concern of removal contractors, Lumphinnians Road, Lochgelly, which was recently fined £150 by Sheriff Umpherston, in Dunfermline Sheriff Court, for working drivers beyond the statutory period, has lodged an appeal against the decision.

Dennis Dividend.

The directors of Dennis Brothers, Ltd., propose to recommend to the shareholders at the general meeting on November 28 a final dividend of Is. 2d. per share, less tax, making with the interim dividend of 4d. a total of Is. 6d, for the year.. The carry forward has been slightly increased. They also recommend a special and non-recurring bonus of 6d. per share, not liable to tax out of a surplus on assets realized.

Albion Company Acquires Halley Works.

We understand that, a few days ago, negotiations were completed for the taking over of the Yoker works of Halley Motors, Ltd., by Albion Motors, Ltd. It will be remembered that the Halley concern went into liquidation in September and the works have, been closed since that time. It is stated that the purchase includes the works and their contents.
