DEVON-BASED haulage firm Gregory Distribution saw its pretax profit rise to more than E3m in 2007, up 58.6% on the year before.
Gregory's latest figures reveal a pre-tax profit of £3.3m in the year up to 30 September 2007 compared with just over £2m in the previous year. Turnover rose from £73.6m to £78.7m. The increase was achieved despite what the firm describes as "relentless" competition. As is the case for most other hauliers, Gregory's directors add that the price of fuel remains a problem.
The directors' report goes on to say: The upward trend in the price of diesel, made worse by the government's increase in duty, continues to be one of the principal risks facing the company."
Gregory intends to continue pursuing the company policy of operating in a wide range of market sectors, including waste recycling, food manufacturing and grocery distribution.
Gregory Distribution operates more than 400 vehicles and employs more than 1,000 staff.
