THE Road Haulage Association Tipping Conference and Exhibition has, over the years, become an event to be reckoned with. Although manufacturers are not allowed to exhibit overtly they nevertheless do so under the cover of RHA members. This year, at Harrogate (May 13-16), the exhibition is bigger than ever and includes most of the major names in the business. As always, there are a number of new products on display and CM has been looking at them.

George Neville brings its new three-way tipping "Revolver" body mounted on a Ford 2417 chassis. This first prototype unit, commissioned by Messrs Dowsett Engineering Construction, has been specifically designed to tip into a concrete "paving train".

The complete body assembly is mounted onto a special turntable unit enabling the body to be revolved through 90° in either direction so that the body can discharge into the pan of the concrete train while moving in the same direction as the roadway that is being laid.

The installation is unusual because of the need to raise the height of the whole of the body assembly in order to give adequate clearance over the loading pan.

The unique features of the Revolver are claimed to enable the body to be tipped at any angular displacement to the chassis, or in a conventional rear end tip situation, while still ensuring that the centre of gravity of the unit is in such a position that stays still during the tippir operation.

The body is tipped by a co ventional single cylinder uncle floor tipping gear assemb suppled by Multifitt Ltd.

With the prospect of highl weights, the design features the existing Sampson GP g trailer have now been incorp rated into a new design frameless tipper.

The "Highwayman" has tvi King Pins, two tipping gear ar body positions and can acce three different suspension either mini-widespread, ft. widespread or tri-axle.

Current frameless design however, cannot cope with si wheel tractors because the kir pin needs to be well under ti trailer to achieve correct ax loadings. The new Highwaymi with its patented twin radial ar design claims to solve this pro lem and also allows for a furth link enabling the suspensic subframe to stay parallel wi the ground during tipping.

The whole concept is said provide a stable tipping trail for weights up to 40 tonnes.

York's Big Chief Tipper Ram is a completely new deisgn sa to incorporate low maintenanc low overall height, low centre gravity and low tare weigl Bodywork is of an all-aluminiu fixed-sided monocoque co struction.

Mounted on a lightweig solid mainrail tipper chass based on York's successful L Deck platform trailer models, tl chassis has a 71n trailer neck keep the centre of gravity as lc as possible and a 178mm (17i deep mainrail belly and is fitt with an all-York ES suspension
