Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QNLY about a year after buying its first artics, Bishop's Wharf and Isherwood Ltd. of Liverpool and Warrington is now working steadily towards complete articulation; as rigids become due for replacement they give way to artics, and already rigids are in a minority in the fleet.

The switch started about 12 months ago when the company was given the task of clearing regular 600-ton cargoes from steamers in Merseyside ports. Initially two tractive units arid six semitrailers were bought for this dock clearance work but this number has been steadily increased. The units chosen were Bedford TK-Boden '12F/5 outfits, the semi-trailers being 26-ft. 12-tonners. with Cary Laminaire suspension. Fifthwheel couplings and twin-air-line brakes are standardized.

Full cargoes of palletized goods are handled from coasters for direct delivery to customers' premises, as well as consignments destined for the company's own warehouses in Warrington Frequently a 600-ton lot has to be

cleared within 48 hr. During spells between ships the semi-trailers are loaded at the• warehouses, the tractive units clearing these as well as picking up

loaded trailers from customers' own bays.

The company is a relativelY recent amalgamation of the Bishop's Wharf Carrying Co. Ltd., established in 1870, and Isherwood and Co. Ltd., which dates back to 1857.
