AN application by M.T.S.(Yorkshire), Ltd., Leeds, for a new B licence for 100 31-ton tippers to be acquired, which is to be heard before the Yorkshire Licensing Authority at Leeds on June 5, has attracted 109 objections.
The conditions sought are "sand, gravel, hardcore, aggregates and excavated materials for authorized contractors in connection with the construction of the Doncaster by-pass."
Nearly 40 of the objectors are based in the East Midland Traffic Area. The Licensing Authority, Maj. F. S. Eastwood, has asked the Road Haulage Association for information regarding licensed tipper availability in the area.
AMIDSHIPS ENGINE FOR COMMER COACH
THE Carlisle coach and bus operators, Blair and Palmer, Ltd., East Tower Street, have carried out a conversion on a Commer coach chassis in which the TS3 engine has been moved amidships.
Mr. R. Maiden, transport manager, told The Commercial Motor on Monday that he believed that this conversion was the first of its kind. It was carried out entirely in the company's workshops over a period of 15 months by drivers and conductors, as well as by the mechanics.
• A primary object of the conversion was to reduce noise. This has been
• achieved as much by a form of " onepiece '' coachwork, in which vibration has been eliminated as far as possible, as by the new location for the engine. The coach will begin its new service during the Whitsun holiday period.
BULK LIQUID RECONSTRUCTED THE Bradford Dyers' Association, Ltd., I announce that reconstruction has been arranged, as a result of which half the equity in Bulk Liquid Transport, Ltd., will be held by them, and half by Cawood Wharton and Co., Ltd.
The new board of directors will be Mr. Arthur Holmes (chairman) and Mr. Edward Binks representing Cawood Wharton and Co., Ltd., and Mr. James Ewing and Mr. Thomas Smith Naylor for The Bradford Dyers' Association, Ltd.
