Brief Details of an Up-to-date 24-seater Body Mounted on a Thornycroft Chassis for the Use of a Whitchurch Owner.

VEHICLES to be used purely for work in connection with private hire are not always constructed to such a high standard of smartness and comfort as the coach which we illustrate on this page. The body of this vehicle has been built by Challands, Ross and Co., Ltd., of Nottingham, expressly to meet the requirements of the private-hire department of Messrs. S. R. Richards and Sons, 43-45, Green End, Whitchurch, Salop, the operators of the Salopia saloon coaches. The chassis used is of Thornycroft make, being of the manufacturer's A6 type, in which a six-eylindered engine of 40-70 h.p. is -employed. This is in the nature of a repeat order for John 1. Thornycroft and Co., Ltd., as this owner purchased, about 18 months ago, an Al-type longwheelbase chassis to take a 20-seater saloon body.

The saloon coach, which we illustrate,

is built to seat 24 passengers, there being 12 seats in pairs on either, side of a central gangway, and three rows at the rear to carry three, four and live persons respectively.

Rawlings drop-windows and Airvac ventilators are employed. Interior decoration has received its raced of attention, the ceiling, of three-ply, being covered with moulded decorations and finished in white enamel, whilst rosepattern lamps are fitted on the cant rails, together with sunken lamps in the roof. The upholstery is in antiquegrained red hide, and the equipment includes neat Beelawet circular ash-trays.

The two wide doors on the near side and the deep panelling add much to the appearance of the vehicle, and this. is further enhanced by the colour scheme of the body, which is painted 14fitcham blue, with the waistline in Bedford grey and the upper portion in black.
