Keywords : Galway

THE 10-VEHICLE licence held by Market Rasen, Lincs-based Galway Transport has been revoked with immediate effect by North-Eastern Traffic Commissioner Tom Macartney.

He went on to disqualify Linda Garner, also known as Linda Longley, from holding or obtaining an 0-licence indefinitely after she failed to appear at a Leeds disciplinary inquiry. Garner had been a Galway director until last August.

The TC believed Galway was a phoenix company which had operated fraudulently to avoid fair competition.

He was concerned about the safety of the fleet because he simply did not know how the vehicles had been running and to what standard. There had been widespread use of red diesel and paraffin;vehicles had been under-taxed; and enforcement staff had been ignored and evaded.

Transport manager Doreen Coverley, 80, had also failed to come to the hearing without giving a reason for her absence. The fleet had been run extremely badly and the transport manager had to accept responsibility for that:Therefore, her good reputt was forfeit.

Finally, the TC said that the names of cveryont involved with the company, and a series of othe companies, should be added to the watch list. Thel are: company secretary Andrew Gunn, Shane Can Mark Blade, David McClean and Michael Wilmot The companies are Dowgate Ltd, LA Contractor Ltd, Rimmer Ltd, and Backline Ltd.

Inclusion on the list means that if these namef appear on any 0-licence application in any capacity the appropriate TC must be informed.
