AN appeal against the imposition of a £10 fine on Suthcriands of Peterhead (Road Hauliers), Ltd., Victoria Garage, St. Peter Street, Peterhead, has been upheld' by •the High Court of Justiciary, Edinburgh. The company, who contended that the fine was " harsh and oppressive," were admonished. At Peterhead Burgh Police Court last November, the company pleaded guilty to failing to keep a current record for a van. It was stated that the vehicle was used for local casual work and. had no regular driver. A log book was provided in the vehicle. When an employee took the van to deliver messages in Peterhead, he drove out without making an appropriate entry. He was stopped by the police, who discovered the fault. It had been pointed out in the pollee 6ourt by both prosecution and defence that the offence was technical. The appeal was not defended.

ABOUR inspection in road transport
and methods of improving the organization of work and output in ports are two of the subjects to be considered at the sixth session of the Inland Transport Committee of the Inter,national Labour Organization, which opened in Hamburg on Monday. • The United Kingdom is represented at the meeting by Mr. A. W. Clarke, of the Ministry of Transport, and Mr. J. H. Galbraith, of the Ministry of Labour. The employers' representatives are Mr. C. H. Brazier, director of industrial relations, British Transport Commission, and Mr. J. Morris Gifford, general manager, National Association of Port Employers. They are accompanied by four advisers—Mr. C. Bellingham-Smith (British Employers' Confederation); Mr. G. M. Deas' (British Road Services): Mr. S. Turner (Surrey Commericial Docks) and Mr. R. 1a/batting (Garston Docks).

BULGAR SERVICES GROW
THE number of bus services run by 1 the Bulgarian Road Transport Board in the Yambol district has increased from two in 1951 to 17 today, and remote villages have been linked with main towns. A new garage and repair depot has been built in the town of Yambol, and eight vehicles can be overhauled there simultaneously.
