WilIAT is claimed to be the largest IN depot in the north of England exclusively devoted to commercial-vehicle sales and service has been opened at Parry Lane, Bradford, by the Central Garage, Ltd., the old-established Bradford and Leeds concern of motor traders, the managing director of which is Mr. J. Russell Rose. The company has takenover and adapted at considerable cost the whole of the Parry Lane portion of the Bowling Ironworks estate. Of the total area of the site of 12,835 sq. yds., the buildings occupy two-thirds, so that there is outside accommodation for such purposes as testing; and space for any future extension. As an illustration of the size of the sales side of the undertaking, when one

of our representatives recently visited the premises there were new commercial vehicles valued at £8,000 in the depot.

On theservice side, the most up-todate equipment and a wide range of spare parts afford ample facilities, which are available at any time of the day or night, including Sundays. An outstanding feature of the equipment is the Royce travelling overhead crane,which has a lifting capacity of 40 tons. It is housed in a workshop 200 ft. long and 56 ft. wide, in which 12-ton lorries, with trailers, fully laden to the maximum height, can be accommodated. Among other departments surrounding the main workshop is a spacious showroom for' the display of heavier commercial motors, including Leyland Cubs, Commers and Karriers, for which makes the Central Garage, Ltd., is a distributor, although, of course, it can supply any make of vehicle. Another showroom is specially allocated to Austin vans of which the company is the county distributor. Other sections include a wellequipped machine shop, body-building department, blacksmith's and panelbeating shop, joiner's shop, accumulator-building and charging room, and stores for spare parts, oil and tyres. The paint shop is in a separate building. Spare parts for all Makes ot vehicle for which the company holds agencies are kept in racks containing about 1,500 compartments.
