Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Operators who want to offer workshop staff apprenticeships may be able to use Lucas Aftermarket's new training centre in Tamworth.

The electronics company is offering apprentice training to NVQ3 for 50 trainees.

To be eligible all trainees should be employed in either a Lucas franchisee, an independent garage or an operator's workshop.

Lucas is committed to training and to an independent aftermarket: "Turning training off is no longer practical," says John Anthony, managing director of aftermarket operations. With it's Modern Apprenticeship Scheme Lucas says that employers can recoup all or most of the £4,500-£7,000 training cost from the Government. During the three year apprenticeship trainees will be continually assessed. They will spend eight weeks at either the Lucas or CENTREX (ex-RTITB) centres at High Ercol or Livingstone.

They will then be qualified in one or a number of specialists areas including autoelectrics, fuelling or braking.

Parts sales and marketing will be offered as a separate apprenticeship.
