Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

a better position for myself. Realizing the importance of transport, I want to undertake a course of study to enhance my career but I would like first to have your opinion on what kind of course I should follow.

I am 34 and have one GCE 0 level. Am I too old for such an undertaking and are my educational qualifications sufficient? If you think that a course qf study is feasible, which one should I choose?

A It is -certainly not too old to begin a course of study at 34. Many mature students have produced excellent results. It will take a little time to get into the rhythm of study, however, and you should guard against becoming discouraged if progress seems to be somewhat slow at first.

You might consider studying for the City and Guilds Certificate for Motor Vehicle Mechanics (C & G course 381). When you have achieved this qualification, either by evening study or one day a week day release if your employers are willing, you will be able to apply for Associateship of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers. It is considered that your experience and general responsibility would enable you to obtain this award.

Under the arrangements which are going ahead for certificates for transport managers, this would qualify you for a Grade III certificate.

You could then go on to take the City and Guilds course 390 which leads to a full technological certificate and success in this examination would bring you Associate Membership of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers and a Grade II certificate for transport managers.

A CM survey in July 1970 did not reveal a City and Guilds course in your area but no doubt the position has since improved. You should write for information to the City and Guilds of London Institute, 76 Portland Place, London,
