• Nine major road schemes for Scotland — estimated to cost a total of £21,127,000 — have been approved by the Scottish Secretary of State, Mr Gordon Campbell M P.
Largest of these will be the Renfrew motorway, linking the inner ring road at the southern end of Kingston Bridge, Glasgow, with M8 to Glasgow airport.
All projects have been sponsored by local highway authorities and the government will be making grants of £16m towards them.
