Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

first phase of the Yorkshire Patent Steam Wagon Co.'s latest development was seen at the vehicle parade on the Wednesday. As indicated in The Commercial Motor review before the conference, this manufacturer's 1,000-gal. gully-cesspool emptier was to have the addition of certain new equipment. One item proved to be a servo-assisted hosejib which is aimed at reducing the effort needed by the operator, which can be considerable in the course of a full day's work. With this goes provision for highpressure, clean water discharge at the bottom of the suction pipe which should facilitate gully clearance. The vehicle on show was classified as part of the Yorkshire's C.M. (or Common Market) range and it was due to leave for the Continent shortly after the exhibition.

Bound for Australia the following week was the 8-12-cu.-yd. Gibson Pendulette body on the Dennis Heron chassis with 7-ft. 6-in. wheelbase.

Swedish Compressor Vehicle

Arrangements have been completed for Sweden's Norba design screw compressor vehicle to be manufactured in England and the first completed unit was on parade. With the exception of the screw and certain associated mechanisms, the whole will be of British manufacture so that home users may be reassured on the question of spares availability.

Wide attention was attracted by the new Eagle Crushioad design which incorporates a loading hopper which is sealed off from the rest of the body and has continuous automatic pressing mechanism operated by twin hydraulic rams and sequence valves, so pre-crushing the refuse to a considerable extent before it enters the main compartment. The working sequence provides for the hopper being loaded, while the barrier crushes earlier hopper content. When the barrier crushing action stops, the hopper tilts into line with the body aperture which is automatically opened. Then the harder packs the crushed refuse into the body. As the aperture closes, the hopper box returns to the horizontal, the barrier retracting and more refuse falling into the box ready for packing. Units of this design will shortly be available for trial by municipalities.

The innovation of a packer plate on the Glover Webb and Liversidge. Ltd., Dual Tip machines attracted much notice, this equipment being claimed to give a 20 per cent. increase in total capacity.

New on the Shelvoke and Drewry, Ltd., Packamatic range is the 35-cu.-yd. collector which, with its crew cab and an 1-ft. 9-in, wheelbase, has a swept turning circle of 49 ft. against 53 ft. for the 50-cu,-yd. design, or 54 ft. for the Packarnatic with container hoist that incorporates a squeeze clamp action for certain work.

In their element on demonstration work were the pedestrian-controlled suction sweepers, the Munivac from Kent Engineering and Foundry, Ltd., the Litta-Snatcha from Sweeping Machinery and Equipment, Ltd., and the Littervac from Columbus-Dixon, Ltd., all of which happily gobbled up cartons, beakers and miscellaneous litter.

Suction cleansing for highways continued to attract interest and the economy version of the Bedford-Lacre sweeper had a good reception. In its field, Johnston Bros. (Engineering), Ltd., now have both a single-sweep model' and a dual-sweep design with full dual control cab.
