KNOWLE FLEET GOES TO RAILWAYS

SIX livestock vehicles operated for some years by British Road Services from Knowle have been taken over by British Railways. They are part of 398 railway cartage vehicles which were originally scheduled for disposal under the Transport Act, 1953.

All the vehicles have bodies suitable for carrying sheep, pigs, calves, cattle, ponies and horses. The weekly markets at Henley-in-Arden, Hamptonin-Arden, Stratford upon Avon, Knowle, Warwick and Banbury are attended regularly.

BIRMINGHAM FARE PLAN TO BE WITHDRAWN DOLITICAL pressure is expected to

force Birmingham Transport Committee to find an alternative to their plan to raise revenue by charging an extra Id. on fares at week-ends and on Bank Holidays.

A meeting of the Socialist group, which controls thia city council, last week passed a resolution stating that it was not in favour of increasing weekend fares by an amount above those on other days.

The plan, which was expected to yield more than 1400,000 a year, was given in The Commercial Motor last week. A similar arrangement was in force at Bolton at least 30 years ago, when after noon on Saturdays, an extra Id. was charged.
