Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I TOTALLY AGREE with your article on secure HGV parking (1 July). Local councils should provide truck parking with adequate facilities; after all we are normally delivering goods to local businesses. Why don't they see that we are willing to pay for such services so they are not losing anything in the long run? In fact they would possibly gain from drivers spending within the local shops and eating facilities.

I have come to the conclusion that the answer lies with the hauliers themselves. Why don't the RHA and FTA members get together and offer their own yards and facilities to other members as secure parking?

I'm sure that hauliers Ii urn different areas always have a certain number of vehicles out at night throughout the week,so they could offer these spaces to other firms working in the area.

All it would take is a website or booklet listing the members involved in the yard swap.

I understand that people might have security worries, but this could be overcome by making the system subject to membership. Companies in breach of the rules would be removed from the list.

Obviously this is only my solu tion to the problem and would only be. successful if the drivers themselves proved they could use the service sensibly by keeping yards clean and tidy at all times.

Thank you for providing such a fantastic read. Commercial Motor offers the drivers out there in the thick of it support and guidance for their troubled future.
