POLICE ARE HUNTING a gang who hijacked a Dutch truck driver at gunpoint and made off with his £420,000 load of flatscreen monitors.

The attack happened at llpm last Monday (5 July) outside New Wave Logistics, Gowerton Road in Bracicrnills,Northants.

The driver was asleep in his cab when four men wearing ski masks smashed the windows. He was ordered out of the cab at gunpoint and bundled into the trailer.

Soon after the driver was transferred into a car which dumped him in Great Bridgeford, Staffs. He flagged down a passing truck driver who took him to the police. The Dutch-registered Renault with Gen Tramf on the trailer was found minus its load in Newton-leWillows, Merseyside.

A Northamptonshire police spokesman says the driver was shaken but not hurt. "We would like to appeal to anyone who may have noticed this lorry being unloaded, perhaps in a car park or in a lay-by," he says. -At this stage it is not known where this would have occurred.

"We are also asking people to be on the lookout for these flat screen monitors which may be offered for sale in unusual circumstances."
