DISCUSSIONS between the Scottish Bus Group and Glasgow Corporation regarding the offer by the former to undertake the responsibilities of the Glasgow Corporation Transport system, (COMMERCIAL MOTOR, May 13) continued in late June when some progress was made. Birmingham Samples Red Arrows: Members of Birmingham City transport committee recently sampled London Transport's Red Arrow crush load singledeckers. The chairman of the committee. Cllr. D. Lewis. is reported to have commented that members had been greatly impressed by the way in which the buses had been received by the public. Birmingham's committee has to confirm whether 18 AEC Swift buses, recently ordered (CommEaciAt MOTOR, June 3), should be of similar layout for operation on the city's inner-circle service.

Accrington Tenders: Accrington Corporation transport committee has authorized the transport manager to invite tenders for three single-deck buses.

Maintenance Bonus Scheme: Plans for a bonus scheme which could add 63s. a week to the wages of maintenance men arc being considered by the Newcastle upon Tyne Corporation transport committee. The plans, prepared by a firm of management consultants, provide that the rate of payment would be based on the work done. A standard time would be set for each job. and an experienced man could earn from 45s. to 63s. bonus during a 40-hour week. A 40 per cent increase in productivity was possible. Workers would work in small groups and each man would be rewarded according to his group's performance.
