Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QPECIFIC reference to The Connner cial Motor was made by Mr. J. A. T.. Hanlon, Northern Licensing Authority, last Week, when he advised an applicant to read the technical Press. Mr. Edward Fye, Beverley Cart Road, Whitehaven, applied for a B licence to operate a second vehicle. He said that the one vehicle was working almost day and night.

The hearing had been adjourned three times for various reasons, and Mr. Fye had reduced his proposed radius from 40 to 20 miles to meet objections by British Railways, British Road Services and Messrs. J. Rogers and Sons.

Mr. F. J. McHugh, for the State undertakings. recalled that a similar application by Mr. Fyc was rejected in October last.

The Authority thought that the applicant had a good case, hut that it was not being presented in the proper way. Figures produced were not in the form required by the Transport Tribunal and letters from important customers might be given as evidence,

" It would be a disservice to make a grant now, which is bound to be taken away from you, and you would have the cost of the proceedings in London tO.pay," the Authority told Mr. Fye.

Mr. Fye:. " I can fill your desk with solicited letters."

The Authority: "Sometimes the Tribunal cotnments on the fact that letters are solicited. It does not matter. A man is entitled to go to his customers."

He added that it the applicant read the technical Press he would find out what the Tribunal said when hearing appeals.

The case was adjourned until July 28.
