IN a new air rescue vehicle, the prototype of which has been built by Fire Armour. Ltd., 9 George Street. London, W.I. an Austin Champ 4 x 4 chassis has been used.

The body is of semi-integral construction in pressed steel, and sponge-rubber pads are provided at all points where the head would be likely to make contact in the event of an accident. Aircraft-type passenger safety belts are fitted to both seats to provide security durine fast cross-country runs.

Special equipment includes a 5 kVA. genera-tor controlled by an Isospeedic governor. The generator has an output sufficient to operate, at their rated capacity. two Black and Decker 12-in.-diameter air rescue saws and a Black and Decker heavy-duty portable drill. Two 500 W. floodlights can also be used at the same time.

Each of the portable electric tools is provided with 100 ft. of heavy-duty three-core flexible cable, each cable having its own reel with slip-ring contacts.

Fire-fighting equipment consists of a 150 lb. dry-powder extinguisher, an alternative being a 12-gal. chlorobromomethane extinguisher from which the compound is expelled from the container by a nitrogen charge carried in a separate container.

K.L.G. PLUGS SCREENED FOR MOBILE RADIO A RANGE of screened plugs for use inon vehicles with radio transmitters. which necessitate a high degree of oppression, has been produced by K.L.G. Sparking Plugs. Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London. N.W.2. The plugs are supplied with a variety of elbow connections easily coupled to screened high-tension cables.

It is sometimes found, particularly where long cables arc used, that the increased capacity of a suppressed ignition system causes the plug electrodes to deteriorate rapidly. This tendency can be offset by the addition of a resistor in each sparking plug, and certain K.L.G. plugs arc available with built-in resistors.

If preferred, the resistor can . be incorporated in the elbow connection and thus not discarded when the plugs arc renewed.

TYRE-LIFEBUOY FOR BUSES?

AN idea that a bus should be cont'Jelled to carry a fully inflated tyre which could be used as a lifehuoy in possible accidents involving the risk of drowning was expounded at the annual general meeting of the Scottish Accident Prevention Council last week. Such a tyre was stated to be capable of supporting six persons.

It was also urged that buses should have direction indicators, and that the police should give greater attention to the enforcement of speed limits.
