Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A WARNING that they might he r-L " in serious difficulties" with the Licensing Authority if they did nothing more than to operate a shuttle service by bus along Corporation Road when the present tram service was abandoned, has been given to Grimsby Transport Committee by the town clerk. Mr. L. W. Heeler.

Mr. Heeler said that several bus operators wished to run services from parts of Grimsby to Humber Bank factories. Applications for some services had already been considered, and they had been supported by Humber Bank industrialists, because of the number of changes involved in using the corporation's services.

The committee approved, in principle, the general manager's proposals that if the Immingham tram service along Corporation Road and Gilbey Road were abandoned, there should be a direct service from the present tram halt at Pywipe along Gilbey Road, Corporation Road, Lord Street into the town centre and continuing along the existing route No. 2.

It was also agreed that another bus should operate along Gilbey Road, Corporation Road, Central Market, Riby Square and continue along route No. 1 to Old Clee. and that there should be a nightly service encircling the town from the same starting point.

Six ex-London Transport doubledeckers are to be bought from W. North of Leeds, Ltd., for £3,600, to operate these services.

SPEEDING COACH OWNER "PERSECUTED"

THIS is not a prosecution, but a persecution," declared Mr. D. J. Caven, when he defended a coach proprietor on two speeding summonses before Milnthorpe magistrates last week. Henry Warwick Tuer, Macey Bank, Southwaite, Carlisle, was charged with driving a coach at over 30 m.p.h., also with exceeding the speed limit in a built-up area.

Mr. Cavcn maintained that it was not the practice to bring two charges for the same offence. Police Supt. T. Barbour said that the police had no wish to be " clever." If they had erred they were ready to be guided by the court.

Tuer was fined £2 on each summons. He pleaded guilty to the first charge and not guilty to the second.
