Present Constitution of the Committee.

Matters are being advanced in respect of the experimental testing of all-motor traffic, in the Westminster area, on a Sunday in August or September. The committee, as at present constituted, includes:—

Mr. Alpheus C. Morton, M.P.

Mr. Julian A. Halford.

Mr. Deputy-Alderman George Heilbuth (City of London).

Mr. Charles Alfred Teuton (Chairman of City of London Streets Committee). The Royal Automobile Club has not yet appointed its delegates, but it has courteously allowed the Horseless Sunday Committee to meet at the club-house, 119, Picea(Idly, W. Other representative bodies and societies are now to be invited to nominate representatives to the Committee, and the next meeting will take place on Thursday, the 22nd instant. Interesting statistics will then be subnutted, and the financial side will be fully considered.

The dominating idea is to bring home to the public the numerous benefits which are being gradually conferred upon residents in towns by the growing use of rubber-tired motor vehicles, of which a correct impression would be obtained by the artificial production of conditions which are likely to obtain a few years hence. It is intended that the traffic through practically the whole of the City of Westminster area shall he exclusively conducted by rubber-tired motor vehicles, for a period of about eight hours. The Committee appreciates that the organization can only be successfully undertaken with the co-operation and tacit consent of all parties affected or concerned, and it believes that such co-operation will be willingly extended, to the end that the experiment may be complete. The intended arrangements provide—above all things— for the safe-guarding of the convenience of the travelling piddle. It is, of course, fully realized that difficulties have to be surmounted, and written communications have been invited from any residents in the Westminster area who habitually use horses on a Sunday, or from any persons who believe they detect some unforeseen circumstance. The test will, it must not be overlooked, show the advantages of cleaner streets, the improved sanitary conditions, the lessened noise, the greater safety, and the benefit of uniform speed due to the absence of " mixed" traffic, all of which are points of vital moment to pedestrians and other users of the highway.

The Editor of THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR has consented to act as honorary secretary.
