Hand-operated Vehicle Crane AMANUALLY operated, two-speed hydraulic crane designed for use on vehicles is the latest addition to the Skandia range. Although the unit weighs only 100 lb., lifting capacity is almost 12 cwt. (1,3201b.) The name given to the equipment is Skandia Sunfab.

To use the Sunfab on a vehicle, a 1-ft. 8-in.-square mounting plate has to be fitted to the platform and this carries a pivot on which the crane fits. When not in use the pivot retracts into the plate, leaving a level floor. The base of the crane carries two wheels at the opposite end to the pivot location so that the unit can be swivelled for placing the load; it can be rotated through a full 360°.

The pump is at the base of the vertical hydraulic cylinder and is operated by a hand lever, there being a double action, slow for heavy and fast for light loads. There is an automatic stewing lock and the jib can be extended up to 4 ft. 9 in., in which condition lifting height over the platform is 5 ft. II in. and the maximum load permissible is 660 lb.

Tyre Inflator L.-I A TYRE inflator introduced by The Welding Equipment

Service Co Ltd. will be particularly useful for use on vehicle breakdowns. It fits on to standard cylinders of nitrogen or compressed air and has been designed to be more robust than previous equipment, and to be cheaper in price.

The inflator consists essentially of a valve arrangement which screws into the csw tinder, and there are two gauges showing tyre and cylinder pressure. There is a pressure-release valve which allows accurate control of tyre pressure and the inflator unit is connected to the tyre by a hose having a standard valve clip. Other types of clip can be fitted if required.

Features incorporated in the design to ensure long life and accurate performance include a high-strength bronze bottle connection which houses a sintered-metal filter and there are no soldered connections in the inflator. A moulded-rubber valve is used in the pressure-release section and a nonretractable valve spindle increases safety.

On Workshop Safety EFFICIENCY with safety is the theme of a new film entitled "How About You ", made by the British Oxygen Co, film unit and available on free' loan from B.O.C.

The film starts with a sequence on how not to run a small workshop where inefficient organization, faulty equipment and dangerous practices can lead to serious injury or worse. Then, two well-run and highly efficient welding operations are shown, one a welding shop in an engineering works, the other a production line at a car factory. At both, safety considerations are shown to be of prime importance.

Filmed in sound and colour on 16 mm., "How About You " runs for 13 minutes, Available from: Eritish Oxygen Film Library, North Circular Road, Cricklewood, London, N.W.2.
