From 1929 to 1934 he was traffic manager of Elliott Bros. (Bournemouth) Ltd., the operator of Royal Blue Coaches, and he started with Western National in 1935 as traffic superintendent of express services. Mr. Preece was a founder member of Associated Motorways and is a member of its management committee; he is also hon. secretary of the south western section of the Institute of Transport Mr. D. A. Taylor, at present sales manager (industrial) of the London division of Shell-Mex and B.P. Ltd., has been appointed director and general manager of the Power Petroleum Co. Ltd. to succeed Mr. G. B. HowardRice, who is to retire as managing director on January 31. Mr. Taylor joined Shell-Mex and B.P. in 1959. His recent appointments include branch manager of the company's Southampton branch and divisional sales manager (industrial) southern division. Mr. Howard-Rice has hal more than 40 years in the oil industry, originally joining the British Oil Marketing Co. Ltd. in 1923.

Mr. T. W. Woods has been appointed a director of the Northern General Transport Co. Ltd. Mr. W. M. Dravers has resigned from the board. Mr. Peter M. Yates has been appointed managing director of Atkinson Vehicles Ltd., Preston, in succession to the late Mr. B. Francis Caunt. Mr. Yates, who is 51, received his engineering training with the L.N.E.R. at Doncaster and his first appointment was with Sentinel (Shrewsbury) Ltd., where he rose from fitter to chief buyer. Before joining Atkinson Vehicles he was commercial manager at Lilleshall Co. Ltd., general engineers, Oakengates, Shropshire. In his Sentinel days he spent two years in Europe as a technical representative and has since been back several times on sales visits for Atkinson. He served in the Second World War, when he rose to the rank of major.

Mr. R. J. Nauen, central England area bus sales manager of Transport Vehicles (Daimler) Ltd., has retired after some 44 years with the company. He is succeeded by Mr. S. W. Shears, who joined the design staff at Daimler in 1938. He left the company in 1952 to join SelfChanging Gears Ltd. and spent much of his time overseas as technical sales engineer. He rejoined Daimler last year.

Mr. F. E. Dark, divisional traffic superintendent, southern division, of the Bristol Omnibus Co. Ltd., has been appointed to assistant traffic manager as from February 1 to succeed Mr. W. Williams, who has been appointed traffic manager of the Brighton, Hove and District Omnibus Co. Ltd.

Mr. J. M. Rodger has been appointed assistant traffic manager to the East Kent Road Car Co. Ltd. with effect from February I, Mr. Bodger has been Canterbury district superintendent.

Mr. David Maio, formerly Scam=11 area manager for Scotland and North East England, has been appointed fleet sales manager. Mr. Main joined Scammell Lorries Ltd. in 1947. He will be assisted in his new position by Mr. Alan Wildig, who has •been appointed manager, fleet sales, Southern England. Mr. C. A. H. Cardwell, engineer. B.R.S. Parcels Ltd., has been appointed to succeed Mr. W. L. Morgan as chief engineer of B.R.S. Federation Ltd., on Mr. Morgan's retirement on April 3. Mr. Cardwell had practical training with Thomas Tilling Ltd., Leyland Motors Ltd. and other manufacturers. His first appointment was in 1938 as personal technical assistant to the chief engineer of Thomas Tilling Ltd. and in the following year he became assistant engineer, Hants and Dorset Motor Services Ltd. After war service, in which he rose to the rank of Lt.-Col., Mr. Cardwell was appointed assistant general manager of the Eastern Counties Omnibus Co. Ltd. in 1946 and joined B.R.S. as deputy chief engineer in 1949. He has been engineer, B.R.S. Parcels Ltd., since September, 1963.

Mr. J. W. Kinchin has been appointed deputy managing director of Clayton Dewandre Co, Ltd., a subsidiary of Clayton Dewandre Holdings Ltd. For the past five years Mr. Kinchin has been general manager of the brake division of the Dunlop Rubber Co. Ltd.

Mr. Gerald Yates has been promoted from overseas liaison engineer in the special products and overseas manufacturing division of Leyland Motors Ltd. to contracts manager of the division. Mr. Cecil Goldsmith, formerly acting contracts manager, becomes assistant contracts manager.
