For the first time in its history the Brussels Motor Car Show has devoted a reasonable amount of attention to commercial motors. The Show was opened in the Palais du Cinquentenaire last Saturday afternoon under the patronage of the King of the Belgians, who has promised to pay an official visit during the week.
By reason of the abolition of the aeroplane section and some extensions to the Palace, the Show committee is in the happy position of having all the space it can desire, and of being able to give adequate area to the makers of " heavy weights."
It must be admitted, however, that. the commercial motor in Belgium has not attained the same degree of development as in England, or even in France. This may be due in a certain measure to the peculiar road conditions, the rough pan,: of the North being particularly trying for all kinds of motor
vehicles. The fact remainsthat very few Belgian motorcar manufacturers have thought it necessary to pay serious attention to the commercial side of motoring.
c12 A conspicuous exoeption is the Minerva Co., which has a well filled stand, and a really remarkable addition to the commercial-motor popidation. The Minerva newcomer is a. 2'.-ton lorry, forming the first of a series to be delivered to one of the most important firms of general carriers in London. The new lorry has a four-cylinder Knight motor of 85 mm. by 140 mill. set Lanchester fashion between the two front seats suitably enclosed.
The lorry has a four-speed Rearbox with constant-mesh gears, overhead worm drive, and cast. steel wheels shod with rubber tires. A detailed and illustrated description of this new vehicle will appear in our next week's issue.
Pipe has a series of lightweight commercials and a new 31-ton chassis embodying a number of interesting features.
