A Fortnight Hence.

The Commercial Motor Show at Manchester will be opened a fortnight to-morrow—the 30th inst. It was the writer's pleasure to be present, on Thursday evening of last week, at the inaugural dinner in connection with the private-car show. This function, which served a dual purpose, was held at the Midland Grand Hotel, Manchester, under the auspices of the Lancashire, Cheshire and North Wales Section of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. A brief report of the proceedings will be found on the next page, and from this it will be observed that several important references were made to questions affecting motor transport. We particularly ask our readers who reside in the :Manchester area to inform their newsagents well in advance in respect of the ordinary or any extra copies of our two enlarged issues in connection with the forthcoming Show, These will be dated the 29th inst. and the 5th proxl We have good reasons for anticipating an exceptional demand throughout the counties of Lancashire, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire. They should be ordered now.

While on the subject of the Manchester Show, in this prefatory manner, we feel called upon, in view of the position which has arisen in regard to the future of private-car shows in Cottonopolis, and which position is discussed at some length in the current issue of " The Motor," to point out that a very strong ease can be made for the continuance of commercialmotor shows in Manchester. Such future shows, however, when the bases of any reconstructed scheme for promoting them comes to be settled, must be organized, if the fullest measure of success is to he achieved, in such a way that they shall fully justify their comprehensive title of "North of England shows. Certain factors in the present arrangement do not permit the show to bear out all that its title purports to imply. We do not go more deeply into the merits of this controversy at present, because we are immediately concerned with our own extensive preparations to inform both old and new supporters of TTIE COMMERCIAL MOTOR in the manufacturing districts, by which Manchester is surrounded, of details concerning this month's show, coupled with up-todate summaries in regard to the latest claims of commercial-motor traffic upon their attention.
