VEOLIA ENVIRONMLNTAL Services has taken delivery of the first batch of new Euro-4 Volvo FEs in the UK.

They include six FE-240. 4x2 18-tonne skip-loaders and two FE280,28-tonne prime movers which are coupled to two-axle trailers.

All the vehicles were supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials in Manchester.

Veolia Fleet director Rob Stubbs says: Our single-source agreement with Thomas Hardie also enables us to be ready for the introduction of the European Whole Vehicle Type Approval Directive in 2009."

• Waste management and recycling specialist Biffa has celebrated the purchase of its 1,000th Volvo LGV with the delivery of a specially built FM-400 8x4 fitted with Heil front-loader bodywork.

Biffa collection director Nick Gregg says: "We've been buying Volvo trucks for the past 20 years. One of the prime considerations in choosing a Volvo truck is that they pay great attention to safety — and that's very important to us at Biffa."
