Light CV sales are up, artics down a third

• Despite identical overall commercial vehicle registration figures to last year, the artic sector saw a dramatic drop of one-third.
According to Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) figures, the light commercial vehicle division cancelled out the deficit from the artic sector. January yearto-date registration figures were slightly down by just half a percent to 21,245. At-tic registrations were down 30.5% but this was made up for by the light
CV market, up 2.5% overall.
Citroen made the most ground on year-to-date figures with a rise of a third to 1,841 in the light CV sector and Iveco more than doubled its registrations to 345. Ford, Mitsubishi, and Nissan also saw slight sales increases with Mercedes being the most notable year-to-date drop to 1,273. The biggest growth was seen in car-type pickups with 27% and a 17% growth in the heavy van sector.
Only truck manufacturers MAN and Renault VI recorded
better year-to-date figures over 2000 as the truck and artic sector notched up 3,493—down by
398. Scania sales dropped by a third, ERF by hail and Mercedes by a quarter.
