Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A BOGIE incorporating steerable twin1—toscillating axles has been designed and built by Carrimore Six Wheelers Ltd. for A. Stevens Ltd., Great Ayton, Middlesbrough, Yorks. The unit will be used as the rear support for loads such as girders and prefabricated bridge sections up to 100 ft. long.

Each of the axles and suspension assemblies, which are to the latest Carrimore Four-wheels-in-line design, is carried on sub-frames mounted through double ball bearing turntables to the underside of a fabricated top bolster. At the rear of the bolster a hand-wheeloperated Radicon 20: 1 reduction gearbox is mounted. This has on its output shaft a sprocket which acts on a Renold chain connected to the left-hand-side turntable. One of the fixing points on the turntable is adjustable to take up slack in the chain. The steering action is transmitted to the right-hand-side axle through a track rod connecting the fronts of the sub-frames. Maximum angle of lock is 20° on each side of the straight-ahead position and there is provision for locking the axles when they are in the mid position.

A drawbar welded to the front of the top bolster is incorporated so that the bogie can be towed by the tractor when no load is being carried and also serves as the mounting for light and brake couplings and units in the air-brake system. A support leg is provided for use when the bogie is standing alone.

Overall width of the unit is 8 ft. and the laden height of the top face of the bolster is 5 ft. Stanchions, 1 ft. 6 in. high, locate in holes in the front and rear members of the bolster: three sets are provided to allow widths between the stanchions to be 7 ft. 4 in., 6 ft. 4 in. and 5 ft. 4 in. Eight load-lashing shackles are also provided on the bolster.
