Nick Deal, head of waste management at the Road Haulage Association, says landfill tax – set at £56 – is a huge concern to waste operators and will continue to prove so as it is set to rise by £8 per tonne annually until 2014, with the next rise due in April next year, taking it to £64. “Waste is all about reuse these days,” Deal explains, “with the high price meant to discourage landfill and promote recycling.”
