Kent haulier repeatedly failed to meet financial standing requirements required by licence

By Patric Cunnane

A KENT HAULIER has had its licence revoked after repeatedly failing to meet inancial standing requirements since its O-licence was granted.

However, the revocation will not come into force until March 2012, giving the company time to make a fresh application for a licence that could satisfy the rules.

Beautridge Haulage of Tonbridge was appearing at a public inquiry in Eastbourne before deputy trafic commissioner (DTC) Miles Dorrington.

The company holds a licence for three vehicles and was represented by directors Alan Beautridge and Clare Sharp.

The DTC said the O-licence was granted in 2009 with a inance condition. The Ofice of the Trafic Commissioner (OTC) had requested three months’ bank statements to cover the period January to March 2011, but these had not been received by 5 May.

Further letters were sent to Beautridge Haulage at the end of May and again on 9 June.

Finally, the company submitted statements covering the period 1-31 March 2011, along with credit card information.

These showed that there were insuficient available funds to meet the requirement of £8,100 for the irst vehicle and £4,500 for each additional vehicle.

“The funds have to be held in the name of the limited company,” said the DTC. “I have returned any statements that are not from the limited company.” He told Beautridge and Sharp that ignorance is no excuse.

“When you were sent the calling-in letter you were also sent a guide to the practice directions,” he said.

“You were sent numerous requests for inancial standing information, but have not met the requirements since 2010. No argument that the money is available can be accepted.” The DTC added that his ofice had not been notiied of a change of directors.
