Chris Hart has started up an independent used vehicle dealership after more than a decade working for a franchised vendor. Steve Banner reports.
Almost four months after setting up the independent dealership Trucks 2 Go on a 1.5acre site at Blackrod, near Bolton, Chris Hart is reporting a steady level of trading."We're reasonably buoyant for the time of year," he says. -We're not flat out, but we're still doing deals."
Background in Mercedes
Hart launched his venture after 12 years with Mercedes dealership Ciceley in Bolton.
With 40 vehicles in stock as well as a workshop and a paint shop, he offers everything from vans to tractor units, and also handles exports. The majority of the stock is currently Mercedes. "It's the. product that people know me for," Hart points out.
"We've done quite well with curtainsider and sleeper cab 7.5-tonners recently, and we've moved a number of 18-tonners too," he adds.
"It's interesting to note there's plenty of demand for late-registered 18-tonners, and for 1998/99vintage examples priced at about £8.000 to £10,000. However 2000 to 2001 vehicles aren't selling as fast as I'd like them to."
