Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PAUL CARVELL, the chief executive of Business Post Group, has quit following a marked downturn in its fortunes.

His resignation after nearly five years in charge of the parcels and letters business was prompted by three profit warnings this year, the latest coming only last month (November). UK Mail, the group's business letter delivery arm, is expanding rapidly, but its business-to-business parcels delivery operation, UK Express, has struggled to maintain sales.

In the six months to September, group pre-tax profits slumped by £2.4m year on year, to £6.2m.

Group chairman Peter Kane says Carvell made a "key contribution to the development of the group" but has decided his future lay elsewhere following the profit warnings.

Carvell worked for TNT, TDG and Christian Salvesen before joining Business Post in 200L He is succeeded by Guy Buswell, MD of UK Mail.
