Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Running costs are a very important consideration for all transport managers. Which vehicles are the most costeffective? Which are most reliable? This information will soon be on tap thanks to a joint venture by Commercial Motor and the ETMC — and we'd like you to help make the project as effective as possible.

II How much does it cost you to run each of your trucks? Are your costs competitive? Have you chosen trucks which are more or less reliable than average? What are the most cost-effective vehicles to run?

You may be able to answer the first question, but until now the rest have always been almost impossible to quantify. Now, however, with your help, Commercial Motor and the European Transport Maintenance Council aim to produce the answers to these and many other questions regarding the operation and maintenance of commercial vehicles.

With the launch of the Cost Monitoring Service we aim to offer the most comprehensive vehicle maintenance and runningcost monitoring exercise ever undertaken in Britain.

We will record the service lives of individual models on a monthly basis to establish reliability and running costs. By combining the records of vehicles from hundreds of operators we will be producing accurate, real-life operating costs for individual makes and models.

With all this information you will discover if your operating costs are competitive. You will find out which are the most reliable vehicles on the market, and you will be warned of weaknesses to watch for in particular models.

Many of Britain's leading transport managers (from ETMC) have already agreed to participate in this venture, but to make

the Commercial MotorIETMC Cost Monitoring Service totally representative, we need information from as many fleets as possible.

If you would like to take part in this new service, the procedure is very simple. Each month we will ask you to fill out a cost record sheet for the models in your fleet (this should take no longer than five minutes) and send the information to us. All information received will, of course, be treated entirely confidentially.

We hope to present the first results early in the New Year. To take part in the Commercial MotorIETMC Cost Monitoring Service, please fill in this form:
