Jimmy Lees, on doctor's orders, is making an early retirement from his position as bus sales manager of British Leyland. As from today he becomes fleet sales consultant to Duple Motor Bodies Ltd. Mr Lees started his sales-executive career in 1949 as AEC's Scottish regional sales manager. Then he transferred to Leyland in 1954. In 1959 he took over the position he has held until retiring.

Eric S. Jenkins, of the West Midlands PTE, has been appointed chief engineer, taking up his new post on January 1 when he succeeds R. Edgley Cox, who is retiring.

D. Bailey has been appointed London Transport's principal contracts assistant in the supplies department. He will be responsible to the contracts officer for the negotiation of contracts for road and rail rolling stock. Dr. A. F. Wade has been appointed London Transport's Medical Officer in Charge of Research. In this new post he will be responsible for special research projects, including a study of developments in the mass medical screening of populations and their possible applications to London Transport.

D. T. Cook has been appointed to he board of Alkaline Batteries Ltd, Redditch-based manufacturers of Alcad nickel cadmium batteries. Mr. Cook joined the company in 1968 and took over the post of marketing and sales manager earlier this year.

Geoffrey Corke has been appointed sales control officer at the Gateshead factory of Smith's Electric Vehicles Ltd. Mr Corke was previously employed in a similar capacity for Crompton Electricars Ltd with which company he served for 15 years, We regret to record the death of J. A. Kirby.

Mr Kirby, founder-chairman of Federated Road Transport Services Ltd. had been a haulier since the early 1920s and was, during his lifetime, associated with the Hauliers' Mutual Association, the Association of Road Operators, the National Conference of Clearing Houses, the Road Haulage Association and the National Association of Warehouse Keepers.
