Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• South Bank magistrates fined the driver of a Teeside Corporation bus £25 with £5.70 costs following an accident in which the bus he was driving plunged backwards over the North Ormesby flyover and landed upside down in a children's play area. The driver, Mr Kevin Potter, who was seriously injured in the accident, denied a cireless driving charge, but the court found the case proved. His licence was also endorsed.

Prosecuting, Mr R. Vickers said that Mr Potter had been driving an empty bus which mounted a pavement when coming round a corner at excessive speed. The bus then fell backwards and demolished 50ft of railings.

Mr Potter had alleged that the bus had a mechanical fault, but a vehicle examiner Mr J. Atkinson, said he could find nothing which would adversely affect till performance of the vehicle.

Defending, Mr A. Hart said that tht court had to be sure that Mr Potter hac driven at an excessive speed but there wa: no evidence to prove this. It was stated tha Mr Potter was unemployed and had no worked for the Corporation since th accident.
