This was revealed to MPs in the Common when a question about the choice o railheads for the carriage of the stone fo motorway construction was asked by M Airey Neave, Tory MP for Abingdon i! Berkshire, where there has been grea concern about this traffic.

Mr Keith Speed, Under Secretary Dcf told him that, in consultation with the loci highway planning authorities concernec road construction units had been instructe to examine all existing railheads whic might be used in any particular scheme, an to warn contractors of any such railheac that might be unsuitable for the carriage roadstone because of their associated roe haulage routes.
