Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

United Dairies, Ltd., recently carried out an interesting demonstration at their factory at Banbury to indicate the important part played by glass-lined tank lorries in ensuring a safe and clean milk supply for London. It was stated that drastic tests carried out with lorries carrying glass-lined tanks had established the value of this method of dealing with bulk supplies, particularly for the haulage of milk from country depots to London.

It is a simple matter to keep the tanks perfectly dean, and one man can

wash and sterilize a 1,250-gallon tank in a few minutes, whereas the time regmred to cleanse 125 churns, representing a similar total capacity, was considerably longer.

A great point in favour of tankers for milk transport is that the commodity is only handled twice with such vehicles, whereas, when it is carried by railway, „six or more handlings may be involved.

'United Dairies, Ltd., now maintain a regular service to London from a number of centres, including Moreton-in the-Marsh, B. aribury, Buckingham; Kirdford and Petersfield, and six tankers engaged in this service transport 8,400 gallons of milk daily, and travel a total distance of nearly 5,800 miles each week.

As indicating the reliance which the company place upon motor vehicles, it may be mentioned that they employ 300 such machines out of a total of 400 road vehicles which they have in use. The lorries in the service of this enterprising company travel over 3,500,000 miles in each year,
