Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Renault's 17-tonne G230 truck will be available this autumn with an automatic clutch, The development could later be an option in the lighter Midliner rigid and G330 G range tractor.

It is believed Renault will be the only manufacturer in the UK with a two-pedal manual transmission-based system.

But it is not known whether the automatic clutch will be part of the package of improvements Renault is planning to unveil for the G range in mid-September.

These include a facelifted dashboard and an increase in maximum power from 246kW

(330hp) to 254kW (340hp), as well as four-bag air suspension as standard (CM 18-24 July). It will be given a new name — the Manager. Renault's other models, the R range and the AE, have already been rebadged the Major and Magnum.

The manufacturer hinted at the development of the automatic clutch earlier this year, when general manager product development Roland Browne said the computer-controlled device, on trial in France for some years, would soon be available here for Renault's municipal and urban distribution vehicles (CM 21-27 Feb).

Unlike a conventional automatic transmission, the automatic clutch still requires manual gearchanging. But the driver does not have a clutch pedal and the clutch itself lasts longer, says Renault.
