SHELL has increased the price I Dery by up to 2.27p a gallon ar four-star petrol by about 5.5p gallon at the pumps.

The rises are due to the fall the value of the pound again the dollar. Shell claims that du ing the last 12 months when Upound was strong, OPEC pric€ were absorbed by the compan. It also says that pump prices al tually decreased at one stage.

Other companies have fo lowed suit, with Esso announi ing a 2.8p per gallon increase i derv, and a 4.3p per gallon ir crease in bulk diesel.

The steeper increase in bul charges by all of the companie has come as a particular blow t hauliers, and a Road Haulag Association spokesman doubte whether many operators woul be able to recover the increase.
