Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

As a Class 3 hgv driver I feel that most UK drivers and a lot of transport firms are against EEC Regulation 543/69.

Where has our true British spirit gone ? Everyone in road haulage from the top to the bottom should band together against the imposition of shorter driving hours. We must make the case that with the extra cost to the industry of about £300m a year, road haulage would go downhill. More drivers and office staff, many of them inexperienced, would have to be employed ; it could mean firms closing down, through bad management, and bad delivery and pick-up.

My firm has already closed down four or five big depots, which means that drivers and managers have been sacked. At a time when the country has so many unemployed, why should we be compelled to drive only eight hours ? And have a clock in front of us, which no other person has to work with ?

If this came about I, like many of my friends, would pack up work, and so this would add to the dole queues. I can't see why the Government wants to being in new laws that will do harm. M. S. BROWN, Market Harborough.
