WITH the start of the football season tomorrow, Merseyside PTE is planning an increased Soccerbus service to carry fans from locations around the city to football grounds. Last season the Soccerbus specials carried nearly 25,000 passengers. The aim this year is to boost that figure to more than 30,000.

PLANS for four new park-andride services in Oxford have been approved by the East Midland Traffic Commissioners.

The City of Oxford District Council will make up any shortfall of revenue to the operator, Oxford South Midland.

THE PRESENT system of bus service licensing in the Lake District has broken down—according to the chairman of Eden District Council, Mr T. R. Fetherston-. haugh. He said there were local people willing to offer more flexible and economic services in the rural areas. The present system with rigid fare stages, and no competing services was not in the public interest, he said.

PASSENGER TERMINALS in Glasgow have poor facilities, are dirty and often harbour alcoholics and undersirables—that is the conclusion of Strathclyde Region transport and highways committee. Ariderston, the Scottish Bus Group's new terminal, is described as "drab, dreary and not very enticing to either regular passengers or visitors."

Strathclyde Region is to demand immediate discussions with operators to improve the standards at terminals in the region.

THE SCOPE for operation of a tourist bus service in Scotland's Central Region is being investigated by its council authorities. Alexander (Midland) has operated a limited range of tourist services, and proposes to withdraw these as they show a loss.

The Central Region will decide whether it can operate its own service—in particular the Upper Castle area of Stirling.
