PERKINS SCHOOL'S • SOUTH AMERICAN TRIP

A NINE-MONTH tour of Argentina rt and Uruguay has been completed by a mobile school of F. Perkins, Ltd., based on a Dodge 2-3-ton chassis. During the 7,500-mile journey, the fuelconsumption rate averaged 21 m.p.g., and at one point a height of 13,500 ft. was reached climbing the Andes. Arrangements for the Argentinian itinerary were made by Messrs. Fevre y Basset, Buenos Aires, Perkins distributors. Five hundred Perkins-engined Bedford buses are operating in that city. Ambrois y Cia., S.A., Montevideo, planned the Uruguayan trip. InstructOr in charge of the school was Mr. A. E. Timmins, Argentinian-born senior export service engineer.

INDIAN-BUILT COMETS IN DEMAND

2-1 A N order for 60 Leyland Comet singledecker bus chassis has been placed with Ashok Leyland, Ltd., by Madras State. Transport, as part of their replacement policy. The bodies are to be built in the Madras State Government transport workshop at Chromepet. The fleet includes 150 Comet buses. A further order for 60 of these chassis has been placed by the Andhra Pradesh Transport Corporation and others are to be built for the transport controller, Jammu and •Kashmir State Government, Srinagar, who already operate 12 Comet goods chassis.
